USASP I Annual Scientific Meeting (Hybrid)

The 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting for the United States Association for the Study of Pain (USASP) aims to provide a platform for scientists, clinicians and healthcare professionals, and trainees from basic science, translational, behavioral, clinical, and other settings to share and discuss current information related to pain mechanisms, pain prevention and pain intervention, and other relevant topics. 

The USASP embraces, promotes, and fosters a culture based on inclusion, diversity, equality, and access. We especially encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups such as, but not limited to, members of minoritized communities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities.


Submission deadline: January 13, 2023

Length of abstract: 250 words max
Abstracts must be submitted using the designated link- see below. 
Each abstract submitted must have a unique corresponding / presenting author
The first author will be the main contact for the submission.
Abstracts will be published in the Journal of Pain. Only the first author's affiliations will be included due to space limitations
Members and non-members are eligible to submit abstracts. 
Abstracts of unpublished work will be accepted if the abstract is not currently in Press 
(i.e., at the time of abstract submission)

  • The abstract should not have subheadings (such as introduction, results, methods, etc.).  It should be one fluid paragraph.
  • No figures or tables are permitted. 
  • Do not include numbered references/bibliography. Authors who wish to cite specific research may do so parenthetically such as, (Palermo, 2019).
  • Funded sources may be included at the end of the abstract. Example –  Funding: RO1AGO4891.

Please organize the body of the abstract as follows:

1. A statement of the purpose of the study. 
2. An outline of the methods used. 
3. A summary of the results presented in sufficient detail to support the conclusions. 
4. A statement of the conclusions reached. It is not satisfactory to state “the results will be discussed”.


Posters are encouraged to include summaries of the results of any research study (quantitative or qualitative) in the field of pain research. Including Basic Science, Clinical Trials, Complementary and Integrative Medicine, Craniofacial Pain, Ethics, Genetics and Pain, Geriatric Pain, Interventional Approaches to Pain Management, Measurement of Pain and its Impact, Nursing, Pain and Disparities, Pain Education, Pain Imaging, Pain in Infants, Children and Adolescents, Pain in Sickle Cell Disease, Physical Therapy, Primary Care, Psychosocial, Rehabilitation Medicine, Sex and Gender. 

Studies that are pilot by nature and include preliminary data will be considered. Abstracts will be reviewed and prospective presenters will be informed regarding acceptance for poster presentation by February, 2023.
