The IASP Developing Countries Project provides grants of up to $10,000 that support improving pain education and practice in developing countries.

Grant Overview

The IASP Developing Countries Project provides grants of up to $10,000 that support improving pain education and practice in developing countries. 

Some types of grant projects include:

  • Combining practical instruction with the latest research
  • Developing written teaching materials
  • Creating online learning programs
  • Developing or implementing policy changes on pain education and practice in hospitals, universities, governments, or other places 

Grant Details

  • Applications should be for one-year projects that are ready to begin within three months of the application deadline.
  • Grants will not be awarded for projects that are in the planning stages.
  • Projects must have specific start and end dates.
  • Applicants must identify the total funds necessary for the project and any additional sources of funding. Projects may not total more than US$10,000.
  • Projects that are multidisciplinary in nature are particularly desirable, although this is not essential.
  • Preference is given to candidates from low-income and low-middle income countries, as defined by the World Bank. Candidates meeting these criteria are especially encouraged to apply.  

Grant Eligibility Requirements

The project leader

  • must be based in a developing country (see list of eligible countries),
  • must have been a member of IASP for at least one year at the time of application, and
  • must not have received the same award in the previous three years.

Grant Review Process and Criteria

The Developing Countries Working Group reviews all applications and makes final decisions. Applications will be reviewed based on the evidence of the organizer’s ability to complete the project; whether the project identifies local needs; if the curriculum is comprehensive, suitable for the intended audience, and relevant to the needs; and whether a program evaluation is planned and is sufficient.

The information below is required for submission and will help match candidates with appropriate mentors. The application mentorship program will open in May 2023 and close in July 2023.
